Boston 2023: Dennis Jones
Posted:Wednesday, February 22, 2023
In early January 2023, a friend of mine approached me and asked me if I wanted to run the Boston Marathon. I flat out told her “no,” thinking that I would have to qualify to run the race. She then introduced me to the Massage Therapy Foundation and explained about their charity bib spots. I looked into the Foundation to see what it was all about and found out that I felt a pretty strong connection! I have been struggling with a lower back issue for almost a year. I started seeing a massage therapist at the end of 2022. She did some amazing things, helping me feel better and get back to being active.
I have been a triathlete and cyclist for many years, and I’ve done some long-distance racing in the past. But due to my limitations with my lower back, my times have slowed down quite a bit. Now, with the help of my massage therapy along with other types of treatment, I’m back to running and feeling pretty good!
Doing good for others and giving back to my community has always been important to me. As the owner of a local bicycle shop, Winter Garden Wheel Works (Winter Garden, FL), I’ve participated in many charity fundraising events, including an annual breast cancer fundraiser bicycle ride put on by my business.
I am so excited to be chosen to run for the Massage Therapy Foundation in the 2023 Boston Marathon. My goal is to raise as much money as I can and increase awareness about the life-enhancing—and sometimes life-changing—benefits of massage therapy. I deeply appreciate your support!
